Ignition Repair on Oʻahu

Open daily, 6:00 AM–11:30 PM · Call or text (808) 636-9894

You put the key in, and nothing. It won’t turn, it turns but the car won’t respond, or half the key is still stuck inside. Ignition trouble stops your day cold, and it’s often a lock and key problem rather than an engine problem. Mililani Key Solutions is a mobile automotive locksmith, so we come to the car wherever it’s sitting on Oʻahu.

Ignition Problems We Handle

  • Key won’t turn in the ignition
  • Key stuck and won’t come out
  • Broken key with part of the blade inside the ignition
  • Worn ignition cylinder that only works with jiggling
  • Worn key that no longer lines up with the cylinder
  • Key turns freely without starting anything

Quick Checks Before You Call

  • Steering wheel lock: turn the wheel gently left and right while turning the key. A locked wheel can hold the ignition in place.
  • Gear selector: make sure an automatic is fully in Park; some cars won’t release the key otherwise.
  • Try your spare key. If the spare works, the problem is probably your worn key, not the ignition.
  • Don’t force it. Heavy twisting is how keys break off in the cylinder.

If none of that works, call us before it gets worse.

How Ignition Repair Works

  1. Call or text (808) 636-9894. Tell us the year, make and model and what the key is doing. Quotes over the phone are free.
  2. We come to the car. No tow needed for a lock and key problem.
  3. Diagnose the cause: worn key, worn cylinder, broken key, or something that needs a mechanic.
  4. Fix it. Depending on the problem, that can mean extracting a broken key, repairing the cylinder or cutting a new key.
  5. If it isn’t a lock problem, we’ll tell you so you can take it to a mechanic.

Ignition repair is backed by our 30-day warranty on labor and parts.

Worn Keys Wear Out Ignitions

A key that’s used daily for years slowly loses its sharp cuts, and the ignition cylinder wears along with it. Eventually the two stop agreeing. A fresh replacement key can bring things back, and catching it early can save the cylinder. Heavy keychains also strain the ignition; keep the key ring light.

Push-to-Start Cars

Push-to-start vehicles don’t have a traditional key cylinder, but they can still fail to start if the car can’t detect your smart key. Try holding the fob right against the start button. If that doesn’t work, the fob may need a battery or reprogramming; see key fob replacement and programming.
