What Is Car Key Replacement?

Car key replacement means making a brand-new working key for your vehicle when the original is lost, stolen, broken or worn out. Most modern keys are more than metal: a transponder chip has to be paired with your car’s immobilizer, and smart keys have to be registered to the car before it will start. That’s different from a simple duplicate (copying a key you still have) and from reprogramming a key or fob you already own. If you only need programming in Mililani, see car key programming in Mililani.

When You Need a New Car Key

  • You lost every key (all keys lost), and there’s nothing to copy
  • Your only key is damaged: cracked shell, worn blade, or a broken flip key
  • Your fob or smart key quit, and a new battery didn’t fix it
  • A key snapped in the door or ignition
  • You bought a used car with just one key and want a spare before it becomes an emergency
  • Your key was stolen and you need a working replacement

How It Works

  1. Call (808) 636-9894. Tell us where you are, your vehicle’s year, make and model, and what happened to the key.
  2. Hear your options first. We explain what your key needs before any work begins. Quotes over the phone are free.
  3. Show proof of ownership. We check your ID and vehicle registration before making any key.
  4. New key, made at your car. We cut and program the key where your vehicle is parked.

Your new key is covered by our 30-day warranty on labor and parts.

Key Types We Work With

  • Standard metal keys: older vehicles without a chip
  • Transponder (chip) keys: cut and paired with your car’s immobilizer
  • High-security (laser-cut) keys: the wavy-groove style on many newer cars
  • Remote-head keys and flip keys: key and remote in one
  • Smart keys and proximity fobs: for push-to-start vehicles
  • All-keys-lost: a new key with no original to copy

Coverage depends on the vehicle and key. Call with your year, make and model and we’ll tell you what we can do before we head out.

Locksmith or Dealership?

A dealership usually needs the car brought in, which can mean a tow if you’ve lost every key, and you’ll work around their service hours. A mobile automotive locksmith comes to you, wherever the car is parked. Call us and compare.
